On Sunday, March 15, 2020, Governor Baker issued an order effective March 17, 2020, limiting gatherings to no more than 25 people. The order specifically states that “[g]atherings of over 25 people are prohibited throughout the Commonwealth.” This is a significant change from last week’s March 13 order limiting public gatherings to no more than 250 people. The Governor’s order applies to all community, civic, public, leisure, faith-based events, as well as sporting events with spectators, concerts, and conventions. It covers fitness centers, private clubs and theaters.

In addition to limits on public gatherings, restaurants in the state are limited to only takeout and delivery as of Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Onsite consumption of food or drink is prohibited.

Also on March 15, 2020, the Commissioner of Pubic Health issued the guidance called for in Governor Baker’s order. The guidance is available here.
