Brett has 8 years of experience in the public sector including, most recently, 2 years as a Staff Attorney for the Office of Chief Counsel, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). At CBP, Brett was an in-house attorney for the agency, advising agency personnel on labor and employment matters affecting their unionized workforce. In that capacity, Brett helped management interpret collective bargaining agreements, arbitrated contractual grievances and represented the agency before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Merit Systems Protection Board (the federal equivalent of the Civil Service Commission). Brett also advised the agency on criminal, immigration, and ethics laws.
Prior to working for the federal government, Brett was an Assistant District Attorney in the Essex District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted hundreds of cases and took over 50 cases to trial, before both judges and juries.
