On March 25, 2020, Governor Baker extended his previous orders temporary suspending normal operations of the state’s schools and non-emergency day care programs. The March 25 School Closure Order extends the closures until May 4.

In his press release and statement regarding the extended closures, Baker announced that the “extension will allow school administrators and educators added planning time to ensure students can complete course requirements, as well as provide teachers with time to expand remote learning opportunities.” He indicated that the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) will continue working with schools on educational programming students can use at home and is creating a model to be used and adapted to fit each school’s needs.

Baker also announced a new partnership between DESE and WGBH, which will provide middle and high school students with access to educational programming on WGBH and WGBY on the WORLD channel from noon to 5 p.m.
